I've finished my [livejournal.com profile] blind_go fic, I think. Assuming I didn't misinterpret the theme it should be ready to go once I hear back from the mods.

I am done with the Exhibitions portion of the Otakon time, now to just go through the clock in/out emails and texts and I am good to go.

Argghhh!!!

So, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] blind_go this time around. And OMG where did the time go?

I have a start to my fic that I am writing but real life and Otakon have really beaten me into submission. That and an unhealthy obsession with a certain game, but we aren't talking about my secret shame. We are talking about the fact that I need to write 500 words between now and midnight tomorrow. As well as finish the fucking Otakon sign master sign in sheet.

And clean.

And sleep.

And shower.

And eat (not really a problem since I eat when I'm stressed).

I will finish the story. It may be complete and utter crap. But I'll finish. And I'll finish the Otakon stuff too. Assuming my vertigo lets me. Still so much to do and so little time.

Shark Week

ladylarkrune: (I'm following you)
Is it totally bad that I am severely bummed that I am going to miss part of Shark Week because of Otakon? Seriously. Bummed. If I could, I can likely can, I might make it so that the tvs at the Dead Dog location are switched to Shark week. Because I am odd like that.

Also I am totally psyched that Adam Samberg is the host for Shark Week this year. My inner Lonely Island fangirl is totally down with this.

It is that time of year where my Otakon brain damage hits overload.

Budget amendments sent

That is 4 hours out of my life.
ladylarkrune: (Fuji Sleeping)
I'm home from Otakon.

I am extremely tired.

The best part is seeing all of the people I care for there.

Now if I could have made it to all 3 concerts it would have been golden.

More later, maybe. Right now my bed calls.
ladylarkrune: (El Hazard - Just Kill Me Now)
And it was too.

Things got done. Stuff was accomplished. And dear gods I talked a lot.

Friday was fun and despite a delayed plane or two, I got the chance to meet [livejournal.com profile] rosefyre and [livejournal.com profile] regacylady for dinner and secrets. It was fun. They are short, as expected. And Rose, I may have something for you...

The meeting itself got a lot done. But gods I was out of words by the time I was done. The cookout afterward was a lot of fun and it was great to have so many people there. Alice and Sean really did a good job of organizing it.

After the cookout, we went to Jim's for talk and poker. I played. And I did well. It was a buy-in game of Texas hold-em for $20. And I ended the night with $80. Not bad. Especially considering we only had 6 players.

The trip back. That was hellacious. A late flight from Baltimore made me miss my flight to GR. Then I had to fight to get put on standby for the next availible flight and then that flight was delayed. I finally got home. Just now. When I should have been home at 4:30pm. Ugh.

So in conclusion, Friends are fun but getting to see them can be a pain.
ladylarkrune: (Japan Shrine)
I am leaving for Japan tomorrow morning. [livejournal.com profile] bacondreamer is meeting me in Detroit so I will have company on the trip.

I will be getting into Tokyo in the afternoon on Tuesday (their time).

It is my goal to try to post up something every day I am there. ^_^

I am really excited.

I am back

I attended the Otakorp Election meeting this weekend. It was interesting. Lots of stuff happened but in the end I think things turned out well.

I am going to be busier though. I was elected Vice-President of the corporation. It will be interesting and I do have some clear goals in mind. But first i need to sleep and veg. Not necessarily in that order.

How was everyone's weeked?
ladylarkrune: (Naruto - Gaara - Ignoring you)
Home from Otakon.

It was interesting - more later on it.

For now I need food, sleep, and hugs from my puppies. Not necessarily in that order.
ladylarkrune: (I eat you now!)
I'm sorry, but if you can't provide me with the name of who you are comping because they are not your friend but a friend of a friend then you are not getting a comped badge.

And out of the 160 or so comped badge requests at least a full third are not filled out correctly.

My puppy with sharp pointy teeth is getting hungry...
ladylarkrune: (For Pony!)
Otakon is still eating my soul - I am taking a break from trying to deal with Staff comped badges and the frustration seen with incomplete forms from people who should really know better - to talk about my weekend.]

TL:DR )
ladylarkrune: (El Hazard - Just Kill Me Now)
I was supposed to be getting together with people today to work on Otakon related things. That isn't happening.

Last night I had macaroni and my body didn't like it... I tried eating again this morning around 7am and well that wasn't well received either. So my plans are kinda shot.

While all of this was going on I was playing the sims and cleaning. Cleaning went well.

Sims not so much... All I have to say is that Marina thinks she's got it bad... Ha! I say! Ha! 3% chance my ass!!! *headdesks*
ladylarkrune: (Fading Away)
I am heading out to Baltimore for Comcon - the major Otakon Planning meeting. I will be back Sunday some time.

Until then I will leave you with these tidbits.

Three of the four boys in college have picked their spouses. One has already proposed and he and his intended are very cute together.

I will be closing the heir poll when I get back. I have enough pictures to get at least two updates out of it and I want to start focussing on a few things.

See you in a few.

Comcon.

ladylarkrune: (El Hazard - Just Kill Me Now)
I still need to do my write up for the meeting on Saturday. But I need to sleep first. I also need to make my reservations for the Super Shuttle and transfer everything I need to the laptop. I talked with Kendo about a few things. I need to talk with Tsuki and Megan yet -- be afeared - Projects I have them.

I also need to review what Rich sent me about Spec Ops. I also want to make sure I sit down with all of my Department heads and make sure that I address any concerns that they may have. Finally I need to talk with Jen about hotels.

Lots of stuff to do. And I still have to work tonight. Ugh.

But first more sleep. Then write up. Then reservation. Then freak out.

Have I mentioned this is my first Comcon... Have I also mentioned that there are 5 confirmed meetings I need to attend/lead

Yipe.

ladylarkrune: (Fuji Sleeping)
It was a sleepy day. I pretty much slept from 7am until 7pm with a few breaks to let dogs out and check my email (both work and personal)

Some crazy stuff happened at work last night. I will have to talk about it more in another post but I want to see what some of the fall out was before I do.

I just finished my requisite Otakon phonecall for the night. So far I have averaged a phone call per night for the week relating to Otakon. I imagine that this will likely be the norm for a while.

I want a nap...
ladylarkrune: (B5: Gethesmene)
Well I finally sat down and watched Season 2.0 of Battlestar Galactica. It was good.

My favorite character is still Sharon - all versions of her. Kara Thrace is getting up there in terms of characters I like. Tigh continues to annoy the crap out of me - probably because I can see a lot of myself in him. Not the drunk part but some of the other things.

I don't have a BSG icon, so I figured a B5 one would work. I still like B5 more than BSG but that I think is because I like the over arching plots.

I can definitely see hints of things to come (considering I have seen parts of Season 4) but getting the backstory is nice. Now I need to watch 2.5 which I have queued and cued up. But after I grab a shower, vacuum, load the dishwasher, and start a load of laundry.

I sent off my budget for Otakon's HR section to the comptroller as well as to my two assistants for this year and the president. It is over the limit they gave me, but as I said in my email. We have to consider the cost of living increases as well as the staff increases and we can't short change our staff otherwise we won't have one. However I did trim a lot of chaff so now the fight for funding begins - and I will not be at the meeting. But I am going to fight for our staff to make sure that we continue to be the best convention in the U.S.

So how was your morning?
ladylarkrune: (Labyrinth: What have you done that is ge)
Where does the time go? Really I wonder.

Let's see. End of month came and went with more than it usual craziness. We hit record numbers this month. My department accounted for 3777 repos and we are just one division. The total for the whole company was 9685 repos. That is a heck of a lot of cars picked up. It was a record-breaking month. The reward, we can wear jeans on Friday and they are buying Pizza for the office tomorrow. I laughed. I get to wear what I want all the time (I haven't looked at my work shirts in 6 months) and I can have Pizza when I want it which is about once every 6 months and I got my fill at Otakon.

Moving on, since noone wants to hear me talk about my work unless it is the fun part - like guys running out in their skivvies chasing after thier car at 3am, to Otakon Stuffage.

I am the Section Chief of Human Resources this year. I am working on my budget but I still need to get in touch with a few people. The budget is smaller this year than last so I am having fun with that. But it is coming together. I still need to talk with Hotels, Gofers, and Staf support. I know what Spec Ops needs and I still need to find a new head of that. The search for a Chief of Staff is going well. Hopefully there will be an announcement soon. There is so much stuff to do and so little time to implement it. I wish I could go to the meeting on the 25th but that is not happening.

Writing front. Well I am writing. But it is not on my fanfics. I know bad, Lark! But with everything going on with Work and Otakon I haven't had the inclination like I should. I am probably going to buckle down for NaNoWriMo and do something like "Finsh a story, Yo!" with that month.

Right now I am working on telling some Sims2 style stories. Let me tell you that I have never yelled at my laptop like I have lately. I am doing an Asylum challenge with [livejournal.com profile] lennoxmacbeth as the star. I like to torture my friends. But this shouldn't be news for you all. ^_^ Here is the linky -- don't kill me because of the crappy picture taking. Although for those of you who play, i dare you to play Spot the Cameraman Mode pictures. They are there. Just not many of them since they cause Blue Screens of Death when I use them too much. Hence part of the screaming. *Begs Mac for an Advertising like banner for the story* You know my photoshop skills suck the galactic muffin.

I still need to mail out the prizes for the Max Challenge contest. But Money is killing me right now. Thank you vet bills.

Speaking of the pets. Rikku is very cuddly needy. She jumps up on my lap while I am working and cuddle sleeps. It is very cute. Shika wants to, but his hip is still bugging him I don't think the weather helps. He is just so happy to be alive that he will bound around the house while being gimpy. I am slowly starting to harden myself to the fact that it is very likely that Shikamaru will not live for very long. I am going to do my best to keep him going and the walks and playing fetch help some. But I think that his hip isn't going to improve and there will be a time where his quality of life is going to deteriorate to the point where it isn't a joy for him anymore. That is the day I am dreading. Until then, he still loves to play fetch and tug the disemboweled remains of squeaky toys with Rikku. He loves her and is currently cuddled against her sleeping. The cats are the cats. Affectionate, easy going, although Rin has taken to fighting with Rikku over who can sit on my lap. He claims he had it first. And he is right since he is the oldest pet in the house.

But that is generally what is going on with me. Today I am going out shopping with my mom at the Asian food store and Farmer's Market. Then later I am heading over to Josh's for Battlestar Friday. But for right now, Coffee!!!! and Dinner.
ladylarkrune: (Nausicaa Dreaming)
Anyone wanna tell me what happened at the Otakon meeting this weekend?
ladylarkrune: (Going Someplace)
I don't know how else to describe it, but I am feeling content - happy even. And I love it!

I switched from the not so good water exercise class to a water aerobics one. For now it is only on Tuesday nights but once my body is more accustomed to working out, I am going to up it to two nights a week. The first class I went to had a interim intructor but even so I already feel better about it. There are people there who are willing to talk to me and are closer in age. And many of the drills that we do feel good and I can feel my body's reaction to them. I was a bit achey the following morning to the point where I am pretty sure that twice a week would be too much now, but I have hope.

Saturday, I went with my parents to see 1776 which was put on by the local civic theater. It was very well done. The actors were phenominal and a few of them had voices that I would just love to listen to for ages. Especially the courier's actor. Oh my gods, was his tenor so sweet and poignant that it brought a tear to my eye. Just lovely. And of course there was the personal amusment factor, in the role of Abigail Adams was a girl I knew from high school and had done theater with. She apprently had just returned to the area after being the lead singer on a cruise ship. I was amused and pleased. Her acting had improved greatly as had her voice. She was a good singer in High School but her voice had an edge to it that really could grate. It still isn't my favorite, but it is better. In all, I had a good time and the History Major in me was amused by the subject and the actual quotes. I was even more pleased that the program book had liner notes about the actual historical veracity. So people were learning, while being entertained. It was great!

Today, I am going to go see Prince Caspian with my father at the cheap movies. It will be good. I really like having a second run movie theater here again. It makes movie watching easier for me.

Finally, I am looking forward to [livejournal.com profile] davez coming to visit. I haven't seen him in a while - not since the "Hi! Bye!" that is Otakon. I look forward to talking with him and hanging out. Even if we have different schedules it will be fun.

Hopefully if this keeps up I will be able to get a lot of stuff accomplished. I like being in a good mood.

Now if only I can figure out what triggered this so I can keep feeling this way.

I like being content, dammit!
ladylarkrune: (El Hazard - Just Kill Me Now)
I have applied for HR Section Chief for Otakon. I talked extensively with one of the people who have held the position in the past to see if it would be a good fit. Now we will see if I get it. If I do not, I will see about working with relations in some capacity.

I don't feel bad about leaving Spec Ops there are at least 4 people who I feel can step up into the role of department head. And I will be availible to ask for help or insight.

But I feel that this is a good choice.
ladylarkrune: (The Sadist in Me)
So what should I do for Otakon next year?

I am not really sure what I want to do. I've done Spec Ops for so long that I am beginning to be burned out by it. So I am open to suggestions.

I really like the people I work with at both my real job and Otakon. My being sick this last week has solidified this. I have gotten such a huge amount of support from both my drivers, management and other CSRs at work. And the people I deal with at Otakon have been also very supportive. It is nice.

I've been slowly going through my emails and trying to clean them up. I had over 200 story alerts that I have managed to whittle down to 92 - mostly by eliminating the duplicates. I need to go through my Otakon emails - there are over 800 and categorize them by year and see if I even need to keep them. It will be nice to get that cleaned up let me tell you.

I am hoping to be able to get more of my webpage updated this week. But I think my next focus needs to be my house. I didn't keep up with it this week and it shows. I don't want to get too messy -even though that is what I tend to default to. I also need to go shopping. Shikamaru eats 8 cups of food a day so I go through dog food really quickly. I also need milk and more fruits and veggies.
ladylarkrune: (I smell Irony)

  • You know more of the Ordinances and Laws in the City of Baltimore than you do for any other city that you live or work in.

  • You can predict what the weather on a certain day is going to do for crowd control issues.

  • You know the geography of the Inner Harbor better than your own neighborhood - including street names. The name of the street behind me, no clue. But I can tell you all of the streets surrounding the BCC.

ladylarkrune: (El Hazard - Just Kill Me Now)
Went to the doctor today because it's becoming difficult to breathe and personally I like breathing. It beats the alternative. So I went thinking I had a sinus infection. Nope, wrong. I have bronchitis.

Dammit.

Dammit all to hell. I do not need bronchitis. But I have my antibiotics and prednisone (a steriod to help with breathing). I am feeling a little better after taking them - so I am hoping to work tonight. I did not work last night but did work the night before.

One of these days I am going to post about my con experiences. But that requires remembering more than just blur after blur of weapons checks, stupid crap, and other things.

Yawn

Aug. 12th, 2008 10:59 am
ladylarkrune: (Spike: Let me rest)
I think I slept for about 18 hours between Yesterday at this time and now. I needed it!

I am still sinusy and my voice - well the less said about it the better. I still have a small sore throat but it isn't as bad as it was.

I've been on the Otakon BBS. I've addressed a few concerns generally and a few others specifically. It appears that most of the issues can be resolved by having more staff and better communication about our needs to CES.

I need to get the sign-in list from Kendo so I can go over it before I send it to our Cheif of Staff.

I also need it so that I can do recommendations of Gofers to Gofer Ops. If we are to be able to survive effectively we need to promote our gofers up not leave them in Gofer Ops for 3 years. I need the good ones now!

Now back to bed, again.
ladylarkrune: (Slipping Away)
At least not totally. I think I have a lovely sinus infection courtesy of the con (Allergies + too little sleep + poor eating habits = Lower immune system) so I am going to be having fun with that.

I worked almost 48 hours over the course of the convention.

I had fun for the most part. The attendees were better this year than last but there were a lot of people and my department was much smaller than it should be.

I didn't see anything of the con other than the hallways, parts of the dealers room while on a mission and the Spec Ops room. I defnitely feel we need to impose a width restriction to hall costumes since the props and the costumes themselves were often cause of bottlenecking. I also think that handcuffs, leashes, and other chains that attach people to others need a specfic ban. Mostly because I got to watch a couple people get clotheslined and one person even fell down and took the other person with them. I am okay with child harnesses. But the chain handcuffs and leashes are really not cool.

There were a few snags. And I am hearing a few gripes - most of them are nit-picks and/exaggerations. When I feel I can not fall asleep on my feet, I may take my time to answer a few of them. I also want to make sure I don't come off as too bitchy due to lack of tiredness.

Plane flights had tailwinds so I got back a little earlier. And my plan of having alcohol before going to the airport was a good one. It allowed me to sleep a little while on the plane.

Now back to sleep.
ladylarkrune: (What are you doing?)
Again.

I am signing off for the con. I will be getting in tomorrow between 3:30 and 4pm if all goes well. After working unitl 7am this morning.

Hugs all and I will see you there.

Pray I don't die from exhaustion before the con even starts.

If you need me call me on my cell. ^_^

Prepping for Otakon - who isn't? - and I decided I should probably check the carry-on flight restrictions.

While I am happy to be able to carry a lighter and nailclippers again. Some of the things on the list just amuse the hell out of me. Because you know that the only reason why they got included on this list is because someone had to answer a question asked about the item more than once.

If you want to read and chuckle here is the link.

I got a good belly laugh at some of the items.
ladylarkrune: (Sinking Feeling)
Otakon is now a week away. EEEEKKKK!!!!

I am starting to go into super planning crisis mode. I have most of my clothes packed and ready to go.

I am looking at the Super Shuttle for going to and from the Hotel (it is 24 dollars round trip) but I'd rather pool cab money or get a ride.

I confirmed my vet boarding for the dogs.

I looked that the prices and times for cab rates vs parking at the airport. It is going to be substancially cheaper to park at the airport. I am going to be driving one of my parents cars there since my car NEVER moves from the house and is visible from the street. So it being gone would be a huge blinking sign that I will be gone. Not something I want to advertise.

I am also watching the weather pretty closely. I don't want the headaches like two years ago with the lines. It looks like we have a chance of rain but it is switching back and forth right now. Ah well.

Back to hoping for rain here.

Just a lot of little last minute stuff to be done.
ladylarkrune: (Spike: Let me rest)
I am trying to devote at least an hour to OtaWork from now until the end of the con. I know - not all that much compared to some. But Tonight I spent about 3 hours on stuff. There is still so much to do but so much of it couldn't be done until last minute.

  • Reply to all of the various security questions - I got more - done

  • Follow up on stuff on the BBS - done

  • Contact Gofers again to confirm they got my request - Done

  • Add the last minute stragglers to teams - done

  • Get my staff list to Cristina

  • Get the team list to the LTs along with their contact info - done

  • Get my office supplies request to Purchasing

  • Make sure that the radio requests have be sent out - delegated but needs follow up - Done

  • Find out if we have any special requests from the various departments - delegated but needs follow-up - done

  • Find out who is attending the panic meeting and designate who will be in charge of the meeting

  • Check up on the feasibilty of getting some UV wands

  • Follow up on Sharp Street being closed

  • Check with Reg about how they are doing things this year

My list keeps growing. The only thing I am thankful for is that I won't have to worry about MM.O's contest much longer. The last day of People's choice Voting is the 8th. That thing was eating my time like you wouldn't believe.

Considering I work in 10 minutes, I don't think this is all happening tonight.

On a positive side, I have fresh figs and watermelon which I am so looking forward to having for dinner while I am working tonight.
ladylarkrune: (What are you doing?)
I've been managing to keep up with my 100 words a day. But its been on a hodgepodge of fics. I've continued to poke away at the Pirates of the Caribbean fic for [livejournal.com profile] lennoxmacbeth. I've also been playing with a massive crossover parody featuring Naruto, Buffy, Harry Potter, Conan the Barbarian, and The Incarnations of Immortality - it promises to be complete crack. I also worked on a Bulma/Vegeta drabblish, short-fic thing - Mac has been infecting me with her DBZ fever and I feel the need to write in the fandom again. Which means of course, that I've been working on "Plotting to Win." I've started outlining the next part and I am hoping to get the next three or so chapters outlined before the end of the weekend. That way all I need to do is sit down and write. I'd forgotten how much I liked that fic.

I've also done a lot of work on the Otakon front lately. I've made contact with one of the department heads I work closely with. Confirmed a few team leaders and a department head second. I've also sent several emails and compiled a report. I win. Or at least I don't lose.

I also sent an email to [livejournal.com profile] sundancekat offering to help out in Publications. It's something I can do from Michigan and still be involved with the con. Once I get the initial set up out of the way for Spec Ops, most of the work doesn't take place until a month or so pre-con. So I can help. We'll see how it all works out.
ladylarkrune: (Naruto - Shikamaru - Give a Damn)
I started writing [livejournal.com profile] lennoxmacbeth's birthmas fic - it is going well but it will not be porny. Sorry. It has a minorly stupid plot and for some reason Jack and Will seem to be heading for a deep conversation about Life, The universe and Everything. Damn you stupid plot bunnies - or in this case random opening lines that give me no real indication where the fic is heading. Damn you to hell!!!!!!!!!

The opening line in question: "Jack Sparrow was in a bad situation and he knew it - which in and of itself said volumes." I love how that flows but come on fic make yourself known! It doesn't help that I only have Dead Man's Chest to work off of for characterization at the moment. ARGHHH!!! And I keep wanting to put periods after my exclamation points.

Anyway, I am keeping up with my 100 words a day thing so far and have about 300 words of the fic done. However I have a hunch then thing will be about 1500 to 2000 words long when I am done. It is definitely going to be over 1000. So Mac, sorry for the wait. But it is coming along.

Up next I think I am going to poke at Plotting to Win. If I can keep this up, my sock is also going to get the 100 words a day challenge. It will be nice to slip between fandoms to keep me fresh. And it doesn't help that I have a Naruto fic that I want to write and I promised myself no new multi-chapters until I am done with Plotting to Win. So that gives me incentive to finish it.

I also would like to have something to enter into the Max Challenge Contest on MM.O assuming it takes place. I haven't had the interest in the site or in any site really for a while. Burnout - thy fingers have curled around my heart.

I need to work on Otakon stuff too and in no particular order I need to do the following:

  • Call Rochelle to get the sign in sheet from last year and any other info she can give me.

  • Call Kendo and talk about the plans for the department.

  • Call Rich Fan and offer him a position

  • Call the people we want for team leaders to get them on board

  • Get a prelim staff list

  • Contact other departments and start establishing relations with them

  • Find a new Hired Security company - need to talk to Sam first

  • Talk to Sean

  • Draft up any changes to existing policies

  • Draft up any staffing info changes

I know there are other things I am forgetting but for now it is a start - Oh can't forget closing Sharp Street and see about getting more staff. Gods, why did I do this again? I know I like pain. . . le sigh.

Back to housecleaning.
ladylarkrune: (Faye)
Ye gods above and below, I can't wait to get a vacation. I have been working and taking classes for over 12 weeks straight. I need a fricking break before school starts.

SO I am going to Otakon. I will see my friends there and hopefully meet some of my Online Friends as well. ^_^

All I know is that I am really looking forward to getting the hell out of Michigan for a while.
